Chateau De La Gardine 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape

The winemaking tradition of the Brunel family dates back to the 17th century.

Description:
Colour: Extremely bright, deep purple with a violet rim. Nose: A perfectly clean nose with an explosion of aromas: Black fruit, exotic spices, roasted coffee and hints of cocoa. One can also distinguish some liquorice and violet flower that combine perfectly well. Palate: This wine is very generous. The tannins are there, silky and ample, ready for the palate but also promising a great future.

Winemaking: The cap of grape skins is treaded down twice at the beginning of alcoholic fermentation, followed by recirculation in large stainless steel tanks. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine remains on the dregs for another 5 – 10 days and is then transferred by gravity into concrete barrels for malolactic fermentation. Depending on the harvest, the wine ages during 9 to 14 months, 60% in vats and 40% in 1 to 6 yearold 225 litres oak barrels.

Grape varieties: 65% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah, 1% Muscardin.
The Gardine bottle, both original and elegant, is the result of a happy coincidence… When he first wanted to expand his cellar, while digging in the ground, Gaston Brunel found a mouth-blown bottle. He loved it and decided to use a similar shape for all his wine. At the beginning, he had to go all the way to Italy to find a glass supplier that was able to make it. Since 1964 all our wines have been bottled in the unique La Gardine shaped-bottle.
